How to Install or upgrade the Directory Sync tool "Windows Azure Active Directory"

Make sure the "Active Directory synchronization is activated".

To Activate DirSync using azure windows PowerShell Run the following cmdlet:​

Connect-MSOLservice

Set-MsolDirSyncEnabled -EnableDirsync $true -Force


To verify that directory synchronization was activated, run the following cmdlet:
(Get-MsolCompanyInformation).DirectorySynchronizationEnabled


Activate / Deactivate directory synchronization

Verify that the vanity domains that will be used from On premise are verified in Office 365 Portal

Installing DirSync (Password synchronization

 

  1. Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer)

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=17851

     

     Note: The new DirSync tool add the Sign-In assistant itself during the installation.

    The new version DO Startcompmgmt.msc "Computer Management"   > "Local User and Groups" > "Groups" select "Administrators"

     select "Add to Group" > type "Enterprise Admins" > "OK" > Apply > OK

     
Install and configure the Directory Sync tool

Right Click and then Run as "Administrator"

Click "Next"

Select "I Accept" then click "Next"

 Select "Start Configuration Wizard Now"

Setting up the permissions

Startcompmgmt.msc "Computer Management"   > "Local User and Groups" > "Groups" select "FIMSyncAdmins"

 select "Add to Group" > type "Enterprise Admins" > "OK"

Apply > OK

Press "OK"


Select "Next"

Type the Office 365 Global Admin username and password.

Make sure that this user has  Password Never Expire Enabled

Click "Next"

Type the local administrator with Enterprise Admin Permissions.

then click "NEXT"

Check the mark for "Enable Hybrid Deployment"

then click "NEXT" and then select "Enable Password Synchronization"

Uncheck the mark for "Synchronize your directories now"

To force the Synchronization using PowerShell using the new version, follow the steps below:

From DirSync open local PowerShell (powershell.exe).

Run the command Import-Module DirSync

To force using Full Synchronization run:

Start-OnlineCoexistenceSync –FullSync​

To force using Delta Synchronization run:

Start-OnlineCoexistenceSync

. Perform a full password sync for all users who are synced through directory synchronization. To do this, follow these steps:

a.     At the command prompt, type %programfiles%\Windows Azure Active Directory Sync\DirSyncConfigShell.psc1.

b.     After the Windows PowerShell session starts, run the following cmdlet:

Set-FullPasswordSync
